The 2016 Akron African Festival

The Akron African American Festival was a 3 day event that showcased the entire African experience. On Friday we witnessed what was called African Village Night. In short, the night was basically a gathering to kick-off the weekend's events with music by Dj Wizzdom.

On day two (Saturday) there were drill teams, step units and other talented youth that showcased their talents on the big stage. We also saw African Drum and Dance Troupe of Cleveland. And a great James Brown tribute band. Now what would an African Festival be without good eats, merchandise and books. The vendors had some pretty good wears this time around. I noticed countless of t-shirts, paintings and pictures all of which had that Afrocentric theme to them.

Day three was the big day, I noticed barber Myke Jackson and The BeBc providing free haircuts for the entire community. Entrepreneur Johnny Oz was downing his thing at the chest tables and of,course we all felt a little safer knowing that wrestling champion AKRON'S own Animal was working the security detail. around 4 pm I noticed that more and more people was arriving trying to get a good spot to see the soul group the SOS Band. All in all, the event was a great success. At this time I would like to give a shout to Debra Calhoun and her team for yet another successful African fest. Until next time, have some fun and get something done.
