Sykes Legacy of Service Makes History

Akron, OH - History was made as State Rep Emilia Sykes- 34th District and State Senator Dr. Vernon Sykes- 28th District were sworn into the Ohio State Legislature. The ceremony was held during the morning worship service of the United Baptist Church on Sunday, December 17, 2016,

The Sykes family stood in support for Ohio’s first father/daughter elected officials. Akron Municipal Court Judge Annalisa Stubbs Williams officiated the oath of office. Court of Appeals Judge Carla Moore was the master of ceremonies’. Family members present on this momentous occasion was Mrs. Barbara Sykes- Ohio State AARP Director and former State Rep, niece Hope Sherman, nephew Hugh Cade, sister Mrs. Stancy Sykes Sherman, and husband Rodney Sherman.

A reception honoring the Sykes Family, followed the worship service in the Gus Johnson Service/Fellowship Center.
