Akron Judges Williams & Michael Appointed To Preside Over Akron Municipal Ovi Court Untitled

Akron, Ohio March 2, 2017- The Akron Municipal Court has appointed Judge Annalisa Stubbs Williams and Judge Kathryn Michael to preside over the OVI (Operating a Vehicle while under the Influence) Court specialized docket program. Since the beginning of the year, both Judges have presided over OVI court hearings which are held every Thursday. The OVI Court which started in 2007 is a collaborative treatment effort between the Akron Municipal Court, the County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Board, the Oriana House Inc., and numerous other Summit County treatment providers. The program allows participants to receive intensive treatment to address drug alcohol issues. Clients are referred to specialized mental health, physical health education, and employment services. In 2015, the Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor appointed Judge Williams as a member of the Commission on Specialized Dockets to oversee certification of other specialized court programs. For 2017, Judge Williams is the Administrative / Presiding Judge for the Court. Judge Williams also currently

presides over the Mental Health Court, Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) program and the 'Peace of Mind' program. Judge Kathyrn Michael also presides over the Family Intervention Court program which uses a therapeutic model, while holding offenders accountable. This highly successful program breaks the cycle of generational family violence. Judge Michael is a recipient of the Legacy III Humanitarian Award recognized for her efforts on behalf of women with addictions. The Akron Municipal Court serves the cities of Akron and Fairlawn; the townships of Bath, Richfield and Springfield; the Villages of Lakemore and Richfield; and that part of Mogadore in Summit County, Ohio.
