BLACK WOMEN’S ROUNDTABLE HOSTS WOMEN OF POWER NATIONAL SUMMIT IN WASHINGTON, DC

Summit Seeks to Address Critical Issues on Capitol Hill including Affordable Health Care, Federal Budget Cuts, Criminal Justice Reform, Voting Rights, Paid Family & Medical Leave, Gun Safety
March 21, 2017 (Washington, DC) – The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP)’s Black Women’s Roundtable (BWR) will host its Sixth Annual BWR Women of Power National Summit (BWR Summit) on Wednesday, March 29 thru Sunday, April 2, with events taking place on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC and at the Summit’s headquarters hotel, the Crystal City Marriott in Arlington, Virginia. The theme of this year’s Summit is “Invest. Inspire. Unite. Act!!!”
The BWR Summit is a component of the NCBCP’s BWR Healthy, Wealthy & Wise Empowerment Project (BWR Empowerment Project). The BWR Empowerment Project focuses on amplifying the intergenerational power and voices of black women on race and gender equity, economic security and prosperity, income inequality, health, economic, educational and social issues impacting urban centers, small towns and rural communities.
Attendees of all ages are expected from across the nation for the Summit. Confirmed speakers and presenters include: Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-3); Linda W. Melanie Campbell, President/CEO of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation and Convener of the Black Women’s Roundtable, shared “This year, we will launch the BWR Summit by releasing the 4th Annual BWR Report, ‘Black Women in the U.S., 2017: Moving Forward in a Post-Obama Era.’ The BWR will share the report with members of the 115th Congress and the Trump Administration. We will also educate and share our deep concerns about the proposed repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) that cuts Medicare and Medicaid; and federal budget cuts to safety net programs that impact the most vulnerable, such as afterschool programs for poor children, meals on wheels for our senior citizens, clean air and water protections in communities across the country and other issues.”
