Akron Summit Community Action, Inc. receives a $15,000 contribution from Huntington Bank Foundation
August 9, 2017- Akron, OH-Akron Summit Community Action, Inc. (ASCA) is purchasing a building in Barberton Ohio to serve 233 Head Start children in the Barberton area. Nicholas (Nick) Browning, President for Huntington Bank in Akron, presented Malcolm J. Costa, President and CEO of Akron Summit Community Action, Inc. with a $15,000 check to go towards the purchase. "At Huntington, we believe in the effectiveness of ASCA and the Head Start program, and we share the same goal of making sure all young people are equipped to live rich and vibrant lives", stated Browning. The Head Start program promotes school readiness of children ages birth to five from low-income families. The program also supports
children's growth and development in a positive learning environment through a variety of services which includes early learning, health and family well-being. Head Start programming is responsive to the ethnic, cultural, and linguistic heritage of each child and family. For 30 years, the Head Start in Barberton site was located at the Decker Family Development Center on Brady Ave. Prior to that, Arnold School was home for Barberton Head Start. Head Start has been in the Barberton Community since 1968. Beginning this 2017-18 school year, the children located in Barberton will attend the Head Start Barberton site located at the former Woodford Elementary School at 315 East State St. Barberton, Ohio. The Barberton Head Start site will have 10 classrooms.
