Browns hang on to beat Ravens in overtime

CLEVELAND — Another week, another thriller for the Browns.

And this time, they came out on top. Cleveland slipped past the Baltimore Ravens, 12-9, Sunday afternoon in what was their third game decided in overtime this season.

Behind another stingy defensive performance, the Browns forced two turnovers, blocked a kick and came through when it mattered most after losing at Oakland the week before in the extra period.

With the win, Cleveland improves to 2-2-1 and earned its first divisional win in almost three years.

Key moment: With two seconds remaining in overtime, rookie kicker Greg Joseph made a 37-yard field goal to win the game. That came after the youngster missed a 55-yarder late in regulation that would’ve spared the Browns another extra period.

Before that, rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield tossed a 39-yard strike to rookie receiver Derrick Willies on a 3rd-and-8 with under two minutes to go in overtime.

Player of the game: Denzel Ward — The rookie cornerback continues to show why the Browns selected with him with the fourth-overall pick in the NFL Draft. Ward, the former Ohio State standout, recorded his third interception of the season, at least a pair of pass breakups and blocked a Ravens kick right before halftime. Ward has had at least one takeaway in four of Cleveland’s five games this year.

Stat of the game: Mayfield, making his second-career start, completed 25 of 43 passes for 342 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The victory is his first since being named the Browns’ starting quarterback after coming off the bench to rally the team to a Week 3 win over the Jets.
