League of Women Voters Holds February 26 Forum for Primary Candidates

AKRON, OH - The U.S. presidential primary gets extensive media attention but Summit County voters also will nominate candidates for important local and state positions on March 17. These candidates will appear on party ballots in addition to the better-known competitors for presidential nomination.

The Leagues of Women Voters of the Akron Area and Hudson, in collaboration with cosponsors Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Zeta Theta Omega Chapter; Akron Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; and the Akron Chapter NAACP, will hold a candidate forum focused on competitive races, where more than one person is competing for party nomination to run in the general election in November.

The forum will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Akron-Summit County Public Library main branch, located at 60 S. High St., Akron.

Those competitive races include:

S. Congress - Districts 11, 13, 14 & 16

State Representative - District 36

Summit County Sheriff

Summit County Council - District 5

Domestic Relations Judge

Voters will have the opportunity to hear from candidates in person. Karen Leith, Ph.D., board member of the Ohio League and past president of the Hudson League, will moderate the forum.
