Galonski announces funds released for Summit County Battered Women’s Shelter

COLUMBUS— State Rep. Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) announced today that Ohio domestic violence shelters will be distributed $950,000 through the Attorney General’s office.

48 domestic violence shelters across the state will receive equal funding after $95,000 is allocated to the statewide domestic violence coalition.

“We need to stay home to stay safe, but unfortunately for many women and children home is the least safe space for them,” Galonski said. “We need to maintain social distancing and we need to stay home, but we also need to stay safe. This money allows for battered women’s shelters to continue to do their incredible work of keeping survivors of domestic violence safe from not only their abusers, but also this virus”.

The Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit and Medina Counties was one of the shelters named and will receive approximately $17,812.50 in funding for domestic violence grants and statewide training grants. The Ohio Domestic Violence Network received the training grant to ensure that recipients statewide will abide by federal and state standards in regards to services provided for survivors.
