Akron introduces non-emergency alert system

City of Akron residents now have a way to hear directly from the city about non-emergency events.
Akron's new CodeRED platform will allow residents to sign up for notification about water boil advisories, road closures, warming center activations, snow and ice removal updates and more. The system is free to join by clicking here: https://tinyurl.com/AkronCodeRed or by texting "AKRONOH" to 24639.
“Communication and transparency are cornerstones of our administration, and this new notification system will help us reach more of our residents with important information,” said Akron Mayor Malik in a prepared statement on Dec. 1. “Residents can choose the types of information they want to receive notifications on like road closures, upcoming city events, building closures and more, as well as how they how they want to receive those notifications such as via text, phone call, email, or all three.”
Support Center Alerts: Warming, cooling, and reunification center activations and updates during weather events or other public service needs.
City Facility and Building Closure Alerts: Temporary closures of city buildings, community centers, pools or other city facilities due to maintenance, weather conditions, or unforeseen reasons.
Event Notifications: Updates about upcoming community events, schedule changes, or cancelations at local centers, parks and public spaces.
Water Advisory Alerts: Water alerts including boil advisories, major water main breaks and general service alerts.
Road and Intersection Closure Alerts: Notices about temporary road or intersection closures due to construction, maintenance or public events.
Snow and Ice Alerts: Updates related to snow and ice operations, including parking bans and pre-treatment notifications.
Trash and Recycling Pickup: Notifications about changes to trash and recycling collection schedules, including delays or cancellations due to holidays, weather conditions or other service issues.
Leaf Pickup Alerts: Notifications about the status of seasonal leaf collection, including delays due to weather or operational changes, and announcements when pickup is complete.
How do I sign up for Akron's CodeRED platform?

Lastly, you can text “AKRONOH” to 24639 to receive a link for the public enrollment portal.
