An Update To The Investigation In The June 2 Shooting On Kelly Avenue

Akron, Ohio, June 18, 2024 — Today, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Akron Police Chief Brian Harding are announcing an update to the investigation on the June 2 shooting on Kelly Avenue. In the days since the senseless shooting on June 2 that claimed the life of Lateris Cook, 27, and injured dozens of others, investigators and a team of local and federal law enforcement partners have continued to work around the clock to try and solve this case.
Detectives have identified a suspect vehicle that they believe contributed to the incident based on information developed, which includes interviewing numerous people, reviewing tips, and analyzing evidence.
The vehicle appears to be a white SUV with dark-tinted windows. The suspect vehicle is believed to have traveled southbound on Kelly Avenue immediately following the shooting.
“The Akron Police Department is working diligently on this investigation, and this update brings them one step closer to solving this case,” says Mayor Malik. “We continue to encourage anyone with any information about the identified vehicle or this shooting to please come forward.”
“This shooting has left a traumatic impact on the victims, their families, and, indirectly, the entire Akron community,” says Chief Harding. “As a result, the members of the Akron Police Department, along with all our partner law enforcement agencies who are assisting us, remain deeply committed to solving this case and bringing the person or persons responsible to justice.”
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Summit County Crimestoppers, and the US Marshalls has offered an additional reward of up to $22,500 for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and successful prosecution of a suspect.
