Akron, Ohio, April 8, 2026 — The City of Akron in collaboration with the Akron Tree Commission and Miller South will host an Arbor Day event on Friday, April 24 at Lane Field Park (630 Vernon Odom Blvd.) from 3-5pm. Parking can be found at 930 Moeller Ave. This is a free event open to the public to commemorate Arbor Day and celebrate trees.
This year’s event is youth-focused and will include a kid’s corner with activities, food, tree planting, and tree giveaway. Additionally, Keep Akron Beautiful will provide a cleanup opportunity for those in attendance.
“This Arbor Day, we’re not just planting trees, we’re investing in the next generation,” said Akron Mayor Shammas Malik. “By bringing young people together to learn, explore, and care for our environment, we’re helping them build a stronger connection to their neighborhoods and their future. Trees make our city healthier, more beautiful, and more resilient, and it’s exciting to see our community come together to celebrate that positive impact. I encourage residents of all ages to join us, get their hands in the soil, and be part of growing a greener Akron.”
“Planting trees is one of the simplest and most impactful ways we can invest in our community,” said Sarah Vradenburg, Chair of the Akron Tree Commission. “We’re excited to celebrate Arbor Day by bringing residents together to learn, plant, and care for Akron’s urban forest.”
This year’s Arbor Day event is supported in part by Project Acorn, a $1 million, five‑year initiative to plant free trees in five low‑canopy neighborhoods:East Akron, Middlebury, Sherbondy Hill, South Akron, and Summit Lake, and to provide paid urban‑forestry workforce training for Akron residents.
