The City of Akron is gearing up to celebrate our 200th birthday all week long! For the city’s 200th birthday, there will be a birthday party like no other. The Heart of Akron Festival, taking place July 3, 4, and 5 at Lock 3, invites the community to gather for a three-day celebration packed with live music, mouth-watering food, dazzling fireworks, a special Sample the City tasting event, and Akron’s Bicentennial Downtown Parade presented by Goodyear. It’s a tribute to Akron’s past, present, and future—featuring everything we love about our city.

All municipal offices will be closed on Friday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. There will be no curb service on Friday, July 4 in observance of the holiday. There will be a one-day delay of trash/recycle collections with curb service resuming on Saturday, July 6.

“The Heart of Akron Festival serves as a unifying celebration that encapsulates Akron’s talents, creativity, heritage, and unique offerings,” said Akron Mayor Shammas Malik. “We’re excited to team up with the Akron Bicentennial Committee to host this special weekend for our residents and guests alike as we celebrate everything Akron has to offer. Set in the heart of downtown at Lock 3, the festival will showcase local pride, talent, and flavor daily from 11 am to 11pm.”

"The Bicentennial Signature Celebration Week seeks to bring all of Akron together, not only as we commemorate our city's 200-year history, but in looking ahead to a vibrant future as we continue to chart our path forward,” said Mark Greer, Executive Director Akron 200. “We're proud to partner with the City on the Heart of Akron Festival for what will be a dynamic weekend of events and celebrations that will long be remembered."
