Yesterday, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik, Ward 10 Councilmember Sharon Connor, and other City and community representatives took part in a ribbon cutting celebration at the newly renovated Reservoir Park Community Center and Pool (1735 Hillside Terrace). The community center will be open for programming beginning in November and the pool will be reopened in Spring 2026.

The new pool features a 15-foot slide, shallow water play space, 25-meter lap lanes, climbing wall, shaded areas, updated bathhouse and more. The community center includes a new updated and modern building entrance, multi-purpose/meeting room, kitchen, art room, game room, and gathering space. The original building and restrooms have been renovated. Outdoor renovations have added more green scape, seating areas, improved pavement, and feature an enhanced fire pit area. The new center and grounds now provide more space for community gatherings and flexible programming space.

“This project was a long time coming for the Goodyear Heights community,” said Mayor Malik. “They now have a beautiful gathering space to host kids and their families for many, many years to come. We are so proud to open this center to our neighbors. I especially want to thank and congratulate Councilwoman Sharon Connor who has been such an advocate for this project in her ward.”

“Our neighborhood has been eagerly awaiting both the community center update and the pool for quite a while,” said Ward 10 Councilwoman Sharon Connor. “The upgrades which have been made are better than we even pictured them and that’s thanks to our residents for giving their input at every step of the design process. The pool will not only provide hours of enjoyment for our families, but it will also provide water fitness for our residents with mobility difficulties. The additional space in our community center and in the green spaces outside will also offer more opportunities for our residents to enjoy flexible programming and gatherings.”

The Reservoir Community Center was originally built in 1933 as a playground building. In 1990 there was an 1,800 sq. ft. addition which included the kitchen and community room. As part of the renovation, the 1990 addition was demolished, and a 4800 sq. ft. addition was added. The pool and bathhouse were originally constructed in 1968.

The renovations to the pool and community center total approximately $10 million and were paid for through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars.
