The City of Akron is inviting residents to help shape the future of transportation safety by participating in a series of upcoming community engagement opportunities as part of Akron's Safe Streets 4 All (SS4A) Program. There is also a survey available to provide meaningful feedback on roadway safety, multi-mobility, and future improvements. Fill out the survey here.
Funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All program, Akron's Safe Streets 4 All initiative is developing a comprehensive Safety Action Plan to reduce traffic-related deaths and serious injuries while making it safer and easier for everyone to travel throughout the city, whether walking, biking, rolling, taking transit, or driving.
The City's current planning efforts are focused on the Copley-Maple and East Akron neighborhoods, with community input helping to identify safety concerns and prioritize future improvements.
The roadway segments for Copley-Maple include:
Copley Road
South Maple Street
Diagonal Road
West Exchange Street
The roadway segments forEast Akron include:
Lovers Lane
East Archwood Avenue
East Wilbeth Road
Kelly Avenue
Arlington Road
Kelly Avenue & Lindsay Avenue Intersection
Additional intersections and corridors within close proximity to the study areas will also be examined, including:

The South Avenue & Diagonal Road intersection

Residents who are unable to attend in person are also encouraged to complete the online Safe Streets 4 All survey. The survey allows community members to identify locations where they feel unsafe and share ideas for improving streets, intersections, sidewalks, bicycle facilities, and other transportation infrastructure. Feedback from both the survey and public meetings will directly inform the City's Safety Action Plan.
"Every person deserves to feel safe getting where they need to go, regardless of how they travel," said Mayor Malik. "The people who walk these streets, drive these roads, ride these buses, and bike through our neighborhoods every day know them better than anyone. Their experiences and ideas will help us build a transportation system that is safer, more accessible, and better connected for everyone."
The Safe Streets 4 All Program builds upon Akron's ongoing efforts to improve roadway safety, including traffic calming measures, pedestrian improvements, and data-driven investments designed to reduce crashes and make neighborhoods safer.
