Today, the City of Akron, Ohio (the “City”) is issuing a developer Request for Proposal ( the “RFP”) for the front bay of the Firestone Building at 1200 Firestone Parkway, Akron, Ohio 44317 (“the Property”). The City seeks to designate a developer with exceptional experience and capability to transform the site while preserving a portion of Akron’s history. The City will only consider proposals that prioritize the adaptive reuse of the front bay, including the clock tower. The RFP in full can be found at akronohio.gov/rfp. Questions about the RFP should be emailed to development@akronohio.gov.
Located on the edge of Firestone Park in South Akron, the Firestone Building property reuse can be a catalyst for the Firestone Park area. Realizing the vision for the Firestone Building will require creativity to unlock the building’s full potential, experience to renovate the real estate asset, and passion to bring together different individuals, organizations, companies, activities, and programs that could fill the space.
The Firestone Building is close to the expressway, Bridgestone Technical center and other residential and commercial sites. The brick and concrete structure is from the early 20th century. Located just off S Main Street, the Property is a short 6 minute drive from downtown, and is located along an Akron Metro route that runs S Main Street from Downtown Akron.
