City of Akron Leaf Removal to Begin Monday, November 4 with New Leaf Removal Dashboard

The City of Akron leaf removal will begin Monday, November 4 in Ward 5. The city postponed the leaf removal schedule by one week to allow more time for the leaves to fall before the start of the program. New this year, the city is launching a leaf removal dashboard to help residents follow along with the program. Residents can visit www.AkronOhio.gov/Leaves to view the tracker.

Each ward takes multiple days to complete. Signs will be posted in the various wards prior to pick-up dates. We’d like to remind residents not to rake their leaves into the street until the day before their scheduled pick-up.

The dashboard will allow residents to follow along in nearly real-time with the progress of our leaf removal crews. The map will show which ward is in progress and which are complete. As roads are completed, they will be marked as complete on the map. Residents will be able to type in their address to see which ward they are in and whether their street has already been picked up or not.

For residents wishing to have leaves removed after their scheduled pick-up date, they can put in a request to 3-1-1 and rake their leaves to the curb but not into the street. The leaf removal crews will respond to these requests in mid-December as time and weather allows after they have gone through all of the wards once.  Additionally, the City offers three free curb service bulk pick-ups per year. The leaves must be bagged for bulk pick-up. To schedule, please contact 3-1-1, go online to akronohio.gov/311 or download the Akron311 App.

The updated schedule is as follows:

The city reminds residents to adhere to the following guidelines so leaf removal can be safe and effective:

  • Rake leaves within two feet of the curb the day before scheduled collection to help keep leaves from collecting in storm sewers

  • Do not allow children to play in leaves on or near the street

  • Do not place branches or any other debris in the street – only leaves

  • Do not rake leaves into the street after the removal has taken place or you may be subject to a fine

  • Do not park vehicles on the street the day before pick-up or until your leaves have been removed

  • Do not park vehicles over the pile of leaves because heat from the underside of the vehicle may cause a fire

All the wards will take more than one day to complete. Please have your leaves on the street by the date listed or they may not get picked up. Be aware that the schedule is subject to change if adverse weather conditions prohibit removal. If there is a change to the schedule, it will be posted on our social media channels, the dashboard, and the leaf removal page on the website. For more information regarding leaf removal, please visit Leaf Removal Program on the City website or call 3-1-1.
