All City of Akron municipal offices will be closed for business on Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day.

There will be no curb service on Monday, May 26. There will be a one-day delay of trash/recycle collections for the remainder of the week, with curb service resuming on Tuesday, May 27 and continuing through Saturday, May 31.

This Friday, May 23, the City of Akron’s Veterans Employee Resource Group, VERG, in partnership with Huntington Bank is hosting a Memorial Day event from 11:30am-1pm at Charles Goodyear Park in the Summit County Courthouse Courtyard (209 S. High St.). The event will feature the Ellet CLC ROTC Drill Team, a wreath laying, and remarks from several officials. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be hosted inside the Ocasek Building (72 S. Broadway).

“Memorial Day is set aside to remember with gratitude all those who served and gave their lives to defend our democracy and our freedoms. Our community and our nation owe these heroes a debt that can never be repaid. This weekend, may we all take time to remember our U.S. military personnel who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service of our country,” said Mayor Shammas Malik.
