The WNBA is officially returning to Cleveland. The Cleveland Sirens, unveiled on August 4, 2026, will become the league's 16th franchise when they begin play in 2028, marking the city's first WNBA team since the Cleveland Rockers folded in 2003.

The team's name and branding are inspired by Lake Erie and Greek mythology. The logo features a siren holding a basketball, while the blue color palette reflects the lake. The launch campaign, narrated by former Rockers star Janice Braxton, introduced the team's slogan, "Hear the Call."

The Sirens will play at Rocket Arena alongside the Cleveland Cavaliers and are owned by Rock Entertainment Group, led by Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. The ownership group reportedly paid a $250 million expansion fee.

The franchise was developed through a 13-month process that included community surveys and public input. Fan interest has been strong, with about 9,000 season-ticket deposits already placed.

Cleveland was home to one of the WNBA's original franchises, the Rockers, from 1997 to 2003. The Sirens' arrival reconnects the city with its women's basketball history while beginning a new chapter for the growing league. Until next time, have some fun and get something done.
