Juneteenth commemoration event for Wednesday at the John S. Knight Center

I understand that the cancellation of many weekend events has impacted a lot of people. I take this role incredibly seriously and tried to make the best decision I could with the last minute demands that were made.

I spent this afternoon and evening meeting with city staff and several event organizers of this weekend’s Juneteenth events (apologies for not smiling more in the picture). We are working together on a Juneteenth commemoration event for Wednesday at the John S. Knight Center and we’ll have more details to share soon. I also heard loud and clear how important it is to have events take place in our neighborhoods, and so we’re working to reschedule the cancelled Juneteenth events in July.

We've also been able to lock in a reschedule date for the North Hill 5K and we’re hoping to do that soon with the American Heart Association Walk, and others as necessary.

Above all, I believe in the people of Akron. I know our community is reckoning with deep questions about safety – I think we have to face those tough challenges united together.
