Akron, Ohio, Jan. 13, 2026 — All municipal offices will be closed on Monday, January 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There will be no curb service on Monday, January 19. There will be a one-day delay of trash/recycle collections for the remainder of the week, with curb service resuming on Tuesday, January 20 and continuing through Saturday, January 24.

Saturday, January 17– 2026 MLK Male Youth Summit at the Akron Urban League (440 Vernon Odom Blvd.) from 8am-12pm with breakfast and lunch provided. Learn more and register here.
Sunday, January 18– The Akron-Summit County Public Library and the Eta Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. commemorate 41 years of the Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture Series in 2026 with guest speaker Jelani Cobb. Event takes place at the Akron-Summit County Main Library (60 S. High St.) from 2-4pm (doors open at 1:30pm). Learn more here.
Sunday, January 18- The MLK Celebration Day Coalition’s Annual MLK Event at First Congregational Church (292 E Market St.) starting at 4pm. Learn more here.
Monday, January 19– Akron Urban League’s 2026 MLK Breakfast at the Double Tree by Hilton Akron/Fairlawn (3180 W Market St.) beginning at 8am (doors open at 7:30am). Hear from keynote speaker Rev. Dr. Eric George Vickers. Learn more and register here.
Monday, January 19- The Akron Zoo’s (500 Edgewood Ave.) Celebrating Black History in Perkins Woods temporary exhibit open from 11am-4pm. Free admission for all on this day. Learn more here.
Monday, January 19– Free admission to the Akron Art Museum (1 S High St.) where they’ll be activities and the New York International Children's Film Festival's Celebrating Black Stories short films. Open 11am-5pm. Learn more here.
