Mayor Malik Announces Upcoming Change to Strategy Role

Akron Mayor Shammas Malik is announcing that Chief of Strategy Nanette Pitt is leaving her role with the city in December. The Chief of Strategy position is one of several strategic roles created by Mayor Malik to focus on community initiatives in critical areas like safety, education, and youth opportunity, and to devote more focus to strategic planning, intergovernmental relations, and public engagement.

Throughout 2024, Pitt has led a team that has secured significant grant funding for the city, set the groundwork for the upcoming Safe Street Pilot Program in partnership with Minority Behavioral Health Group, coordinated with Akron’s schools and out of school providers to help support and launch the non-profit Youth Success Summit and expanding Pre-K access to residents, coordinated and ran the second annual Akron City Festival, and much more.

“It’s been an honor to serve as the city’s Chief of Strategy and to oversee a talented and driven team,” said Nanette Pitt. “I’m proud of the work we’ve been able to accomplish in the first year and have confidence in the future of Akron under Mayor Malik’s leadership.”
