Mayor Malik Invites Community To Police Chief Search Townhall Thursday January 11

Akron Mayor Shammas Malik is inviting the Akron community to join him for a townhall this Thursday, January 11 from 6-7:30pm at Garfield CLC (1326 Brown St.). The first townhall of the Malik administration will focus on the search for the next leader of the Akron Police Department. The meeting will allow time for residents to fill out the community survey to provide input into the process and will have a significant portion dedicated to Q&A. Speakers and guests for the event include Mayor Malik, Chief of Strategy Nanette Pitt, Ohio Senator Vernon Sykes, Retired Akron Police Department Captain Sylvia Trundle, and transition co-chair and Senior Pastor at St. Ashworth Temple Robert Dejournett.

“Community engagement and transparency will be cornerstones to everything we do as a city government,” said Mayor Malik. “This townhall and the community surveys are just a first step in receiving input and feedback from our residents regarding the type of leader they’d like to see at the Akron Police Department. I invite everyone to join us and lend their voice to the conversation.”

The event will take place in person at Garfield CLC (1326 Brown St.) in the auditorium from 6-7:30 pm. For those who cannot attend in person, the event will be livestreamed through the City’s YouTube channel available here.

Residents are encouraged to fill out the community survey which is available in a variety of languages. You can find it online at the below links or you can fill it out in person at any of the city’s community centers.
