The residents around Kerr Park and the merchants on Copley Road along with the City of Akron and Akron Parks Collaborative are thrilled to invite the community to celebrate a transformed neighborhood park on Saturday, May 3rd from 12 – 3pm in Kerr Park at 964 Nome Ave. The event will include music, food trucks, and free tennis lessons and pickleball lessons on the improved court.

Join us for a program at 1pm.

Speakers will include:

  • Kathy Mills Brantly, Mary Carney and Peggy Patterson from the neighborhood

  • Eufrancia Lash, Director of Neighborhood Assistance for the City of Akron

  • E.J. Brinson, the leader of the Kerr team and applicant of the Akron Parks Challenge

  • Bridget Ambrisco, Executive Director of Akron Parks Collaborative

Kerr Park was selected as an Akron Parks Challenge recipient in 2021. That year, as a coordinated but separate project, a new playground was installed with the help of many partners and funders including the City of Akron, Akron Parks Collaborative, GAR Foundation, Summit County Public Health, Summit County Think Tank Coalition, United Way of Summit and Medina and Kaboom.

A core team of neighbors, Copley Road merchants and stakeholders were supported by Akron Parks Collaborative in re-designing the park and overseeing the improvements which include a resurfaced tennis/pickle ball court area, a safer and improved walkway around the park, new furnishings, landscaping and banners.

“This investment is a transformative step toward realizing our vision for West Akron. Kerr Park has the potential to be the catalyst our community needs to evolve into a vibrant live-work-play destination. It will serve as a driving force for safety, economic growth, and shared experiences—where families gather, businesses thrive, and unity is felt in every corner,” said E.J. Brinson.

The park revitalization was funded by the City of Akron through the Akron Parks Challenge program.  Additional support for the event is provided by Cosmetique West Beauty Salon and Terri and Susan Yingling along with the Rubber City Pickleball Club.
