Why a few changes to our leaf removal process?

We’ve been receiving some questions about why we’ve decided to make a few changes to our leaf removal process this year. In previous years, residents were asked to rake leaves into the street shortly before their scheduled collection, but leaves often accumulated in roadways well before crews arrived. This resulted in large piles sitting in the street for extended periods, where they could narrow travel lanes, create safety concerns, and wash into storm drains.
By asking residents to place leaves on the devil strip instead, leaves can be put out as soon as they fall and remain safely out of the roadway until crews arrive. This is a strategic change that may take some adjustments, but we’re hoping it will make the job of our pickup crews faster and easier.
