Akron Offices Closed December 26 And January 2 In Observance Of Christmas Day And New Year’s Day

City To Pick-Up Extra Holiday Trash December 26 – December 30

All municipal offices will be closed on Monday, December 26 in observance of Christmas Day and Monday, January 2 in observance of New Year’s Day.

“On behalf of all of us at the City of Akron, I wish you and your family a joyous and safe holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year,” said Mayor Horrigan. “I hope everyone gets to spend some quality time with family and friends this season as we celebrate together and get ready for 2023.”

There will be no delay in trash/recycling service as a result of these holidays, and curb service will continue on its normal schedule. To get reminders and alerts about your household’s curb service schedule, please download the Akron Recycles app free on Android or Apple devices. You can also use the app’s waste wizard tool to search for items if you are unsure if they should be recycled or thrown out.

Effective Monday, December 26, continuing through Friday, December 30, the City of Akron Sanitation/Curb Service Division will permit residents to place extra trash alongside their trash carts, on their normal collection day. This pickup is intended for extra holiday items, including wrapping paper and gift boxes, which can easily overfill the cart. As always, residents are encouraged to place cardboard and other recyclable materials in their recycling cart.

Following the holidays, the City will also collect residents’ holiday trees left on the curb on their normal collection day. Summit Metro Parks also offers drop off locations where residents can bring their live trees cleaned of all decorations to be chipped into mulch and used by crews to beautify Summit Metro Parks. They accept the trees from December 26 through January 31.
