Mayor Malik Hosting Earth Day Clean Up On Friday April 19

Akron, Ohio, April 15, 2024  — This Friday, April 19, the City of Akron, in partnership with Keep Akron Beautiful, will host a litter clean up event in the Middlebury neighborhood in honor of Earth Day. The clean up will take place from 1pm-3pm and will begin at Keep Akron Beautiful’s headquarters at 850 E Market St. Volunteers are welcome to join and can register online here. Materials will be provided including bags, gloves, and grabbers.

Keep Akron Beautiful (KAB) is a nonprofit organization, that was established in 1981 to implement a comprehensive litter prevention, recycling promotion and beautification program for the City of Akron. For last year’s Clean Up Akron Month (observed in April each year) Keep Akron Beautiful organized 18,035 volunteers. These volunteers spent time removing 60.6 tons of trash and 85 tires.

“I’m excited to host this clean up event as we celebrate Earth Day here in Akron,” said Mayor Malik. “This is a great opportunity for our community to come together with city employees and Keep Akron Beautiful to help beautify our city. If you can’t make it to this clean up event, I encourage you to check out other options to volunteer and get involved throughout April.”

Friday’s event will happen rain or shine and will only be canceled for serious weather, so volunteers are asked to dress appropriately.
