Shammas Malik was publicly sworn in as Akron's 63rd mayor.

Hundreds of people arrived at EJ Thomas Hall Saturday to watch Shammas Malik be publicly sworn in as Akron's 63rd mayor.

He told the crowd ,thank you to everyone who joined us this morning for my ceremonial swearing in. It was an honor to kick off this administration amongst my family and friends, Akron residents, business owners, elected officials and beyond.

Akron is facing many challenges but there is not a single one that can stand in the way of our determination and grit and energy, if we do it together. We are going to make our city safer. We are going to make our city more equitable. We are going to make our city a stronger place – a stable, prosperous, thriving place. And we are going to do it together.
